Bettisfield - Closed 65
On the Oswestry - Whitchurch line. |
 |
|
Bettisfield - Closed 65
With the delightfully preserved
platform. What could be a better way to spend a holiday than
searching for closed stations! |
 |
|
Ellesmere - Closed 65
Also on the Oswestry - Whitchurch line.
A really big looking station. I
believe they are going to turn the station in to flats. |
 |
|
Ellesmere - Closed 65
A side view from the bridge. You can
just make out the canopy.
There was also a branch line from Wrexham that joined here
that closed in 62. |
 |
|
Frankton - Closed 65
Again on the Oswestry - Whitchurch
line.
This is an absolutely amazing
station, out in the middle of nowhere but so grand. |
 |
|
Frankton - Closed 65
The Cambrian railway emblem carved on
the station building. Brilliant!!!! |
 |
|
Frankton - Closed 65
You can still make out the platform,
although I think the conservatory is a later addition!! |
 |
|
Maesbrook - Closed 33
On the Llanymynech - Shrewsbury Abbey
Line.
I nearly wet myself when I came
across this station, closed 74 years but still looks very much like
a station. You can see on the wall that there would have been an
extra bit.
I celebrated by going to the
nearby pub and having Steak and Ale pie. If I went with a girlfriend
I reckon she would've had the same, but I went on my own!! |
 |
|
Oswestry - Closed 66
Quite a major station in it's day, I
mean look at the size of it.
You could go north to Gobowen,
east to Whitchurch and south to Welshpool and Llanfyllin |
 |
|
Oswestry - Closed 66
The line was still used for freight up
until 88 |
 |
|
Oswestry - Closed 66
Now is the Cambrian visitor centre. |
 |
|
Park Hall Halt - Closed 66
Surprisingly the platform is still
there albeit overgrown. You can still see the posts where the
station name once went. How fantastic is that!!!
Inbetween Gobowen & Oswestry. |
 |
|
Welshampton - Closed 65
Once again on the Oswestry -
Whitchurch line.
When I went there (on my own) it
was up for sale. |
 |
|
Whittington (GW) - Closed 60
On the still open Shrewsbury -
Chester line.
You can just make out in the
background where the Cambrian line would've crossed. Unfortunately
the CAM Whittington station has been completely demolished. |
