NOW & THEN

When I very kindly received a photo from Derek Louw with an up to date view of Altrincham in pretty much the same spot 22 1/2 years on as the one taken by my Father, I thought " Wow this is brilliant. What if....."

I know this isn't an original idea, however it's really good fun. You can see how much the surroundings have changed and you can sit there and get all gooey eyed and nostalgic!

I fully intend to keep adding to this section and with London and the south eastern area it won't be a problem. However the rest of the country may prove to be slightly more difficult and this is where you come in. If there's a local station pictured on this site and you fancy popping down to it and try to recreate the same photo as on this site then please send it to me at : disusedrailways1@aol.com and I will feature it here with my eternal thanks.

Some photos are featured elsewhere on this site and all the train details etc can be found in the regional sections.

As this section is continually being added to the locations are not in alphabetically order. Too much fiddling around!

The later photo as mentioned above was taken by Derek Louw.

The nearside roof has disappeared, the nearest platforms are now used by the Metrolink and the station lighting has been changed.

Not a lot has changed here really. Just the signs and the lighting has been updated.

A shame the earlier photo isn't that wonderful. Still there you go!

East Grinstead

The signals have  changed, the crossover has been moved further up and one added to switch to the left. Also a new footbridge (to bypass the station) has been added to the one in front where the original photo was taken, hence the road bridges are closer.

If I did take the photo from the original bridge then you wouldn't be able to see anything and what would be the point of that!

Slightly difficult to get a train in the later photo!

I'm not sure if this platform was ever in passenger use as it was separated from the other platforms with a car parking area.

According to Dan Lucas and Roy Donovan this was used for passenger trains and was platform 4. Thanks Guys.

Apart from the obvious the railings have been replaced with taller ones.
