I got the opportunity to go round Cardiff when I came down for the day with a friend to go to a Dr Who exhibition and what a jolly fine day it was.

Cardiff Bute Road (now Cardiff Bay)
19 March 84 5 August 06
Everything has changed here. The Butetown Historic Railway Society (as seen in the 84 photo) has relocated to Barry Island. The track has been lifted and just a single platform remains for a half hourly shuttle service to Queen St.

I couldn't find anything on the surrounding skyline to match the photos up so I took my best guess.

Cardiff Central
28 Sept 82 5 August 06
The top photo was pretty easy to recreate, although sadly as expected the "Buffet" sign is now gone.

The bottom photo completely had me stumped. I just couldn't work it out. Fortunately 4 of the staff on platforms 1 & 2 very kindly helped me out. The photo was taken from the west end on platforms 6 & 7. The platforms on the right in the 82 photo were for parcels only and have since been demolished. I have since been told that they were at one time a separate station called Cardiff Riverside that was integrated into Central station in the 40s and ceased passenger usage in the 60s.

Thanks for your help guys. Click here to see two of them, the other 2 bolted. (Can't say I blame them!)

The station also has a platform 0. How mad is that!!!!!

Cardiff Queen Street

The surrounding area is a lot more built up and as my mate pointed out the English spelling of Queen St is now on the bottom.

Cathays

In the Cardiff suburbs.

Not a lot has changed here as the station isn't that old. (Well is 24 years old?). The shelters now have rounded roofs and there's a tree next to the far platform.

I'm not sure if the bridge has been replaced as it was impossible to get the same height and angle as in the 85 photo.
