Hastings - Sept 85

An early autumn view of the station.

Hastings - Dec 81

A HAP class 414 #6136 EMU.

Hastings line - March 86

Shortly after the Tonbridge - Hastings section was electrified.

They had to make the tracks into a single line through the tunnels during electrification as the EMUs would be too wide to fit otherwise. Narrow DEMUs' were used on this line previously. Special tunnels for badgers had to be built as the line crossed a path used by the animals and as soon as the third rail went live, many badgers were electrocuted!

Horley - Mid 81

A VEP class 423 #7870 EMU.

This station has barely changed since this photo was taken.

Isle of Wight - May 84

Formerly one of the islands two resident shunters, class 03 #03 079. This shunter now belongs to the Derwent Valley Light Railway.

Margate - 19 Sept 82

Another VEP class 423 #7770. These were the most prolific of southern EMUs on the country lines.

Micheldever - 28 Nov 85
Mortimer - 23 June 82

A Berkshire class 205 DEMU #1131

Newhaven - August 81

Why on earth my brother and I are giving the driver the "Thumbs up" lord only knows!

A jolly good photo though with a HAP class 414 #6031 EMU and a Sealink ferry (Newhaven - Dieppe) in the background.

Seaford - August 81

My brother and I again beneath a wooden destination sign. I really loved those. I know its progress but today's electronic indicators really do lack the charm of the old fashioned ones.

I originally said this was Newhaven Harbour, hence why it's not in alphabetical order. Whoops!
