Dorking area - ??
Can't believe I didn't note the date,
probably the early 80s'.
I think this maybe Boxhill and Westhumble.
A class 415 EPB EMU pulls into
the station.
Yes I was correct -
Boxhill and Westhumble. Please see the Now & Then section. |

I think this is Orpington.
Not too sure on the EMU either.
Derek Louw has
identified the EMU as a 4 VEP.
I was right -
Orpington, although the sidings by platform one have now gone.
Martin Prime with his first of a brace identified this for me. |

Once again I've no idea where this
is which is all the more shameful as my Mother, brother and I are in
this photo. I must have blocked this journey from my memory due to
the fact my Mother is sporting a typical 80s perm!
Not sure on the EMU
either.
Derek Louw has also
narrowed this EMU down to a 4 BEP or CEP, which puts the station
somewhere in Kent.
Darren Cafferty believes
this could be Folkestone Central but isn't 100% certain.
Martin Prime has
identified it as Ashford (Kent), now International of course. Cheers
for those two Martin. |

South Wales - 19 March 84
The destination on the Derby or
Gloucester class DMU says Bargoed.
I love those signals. I took them
for granted when they were around.

Cardiff Bute Road -
Thanks to Martin Potts for what I thought would be very hard to
identify. Martin also kindly provided the below information.
The preservation
site on the right was Butetown Historic Railway Society - long gone.
The two locos would be SIR GOMER, an 0-6-0ST by Peckett 1859 built
1932 ex NCB Mountain Ash and the diesel is 107 an 0-6-0DH by North
British 27932 built 1959 ex British Steel Cardiff |

Unknown (Yorks - Humberside) - Mid 83
Another branch terminus.
A couple of people have
suggested Barton on Humber, however the platform is on the other
side.
Although it's the other
side of the country Douglas Johnson thinks this could be Severn
Beach.
Alistair thinks it's
Sheringham as he explains below.
I think 57 is
Sheringham though, not Severn Beach or Barton. It certainly looks
like the new station built on the east of the Level Crossing after
the old station was closed (which is now part of North Norfolk
Railway I think).
Can anyone confirm
Alistair's suggestion?
Alistair e-mailed with
some more reasons why he believes it's Sheringham
A bit more thinking
- it looks like it's Sheringham facing east because of all the
bungalows to the right (south ) of the line, facing north to the
sea. Also the horizon is gently undulating, exactly as it does
towards West Runton and Cromer.
If it were Severn
Beach there would be smokestacks on the horizon (chemical works
etc.), no bungalows (and they would most likely face the other
way as the seais on the right at Severn Beach). Also I thought
the platform there was on the other side?
Barton on Humber's
way too flat for it to be this picture too.
Darren Cafferty has
confirmed it is indeed Sheringham as he was up there recently.
Thanks chaps for all your input on this one. |

Yorkshire - Mid 82
A more substantial terminus, with plenty
of BRCW class 104 DMUs.
I'm not making this any
easier for you good people trying to help. I can't even get the
county right! - Buxton (Derbys) - Thanks to David Dowd of New Mills. |

Whitchurch - End 87
There are 3 open Whitchurch stations and
I'm not sure which one it is. Hampshire, Salop or South Wales.
Paul Appleby has
narrowed it down by saying its definitely not the one in Hants.
Paul has identified it
as Whitchurch in Shropshire. On the far platform the building has
been replaced by a bus shelter and to the right there are now a load
of Leylandii bushes. |
