SOUTHERN REGION

Nice and close to home. As I've mentioned before at the time this part of the country didn't seem as exciting for trains in comparison to the rest, but now I think these photos are totally mesmerising as the majority of this stock is consigned to history and can only be viewed in books and websites by lovers (or sad anoraks depending on your views) of this era.

Barnham - Mid 81

A class 33 loco, probably on a country run with something like a Brighton - Bristol service.

Barnham - Mid 81

My lord, I'm a looker!

Me in front of a HAP class EMU #6055.

Why couldn't the other regions put the number on the front. It's so much easier to identify the train.

Beltring - June 84

On the Paddock Wood - Rochester line. Apparently there are plans to close this station.

I think the EMU is an EPB class.

Bitterne - Late 83

On the Portsmouth - Southampton line. This line is now electrified.

Blackwater - 29 April 84

A Class 119 Gloucester DMU #W51060.

Bournemouth - 8 June 82

A class 33 loco is being hitched to finish the journey to Weymouth. This line has now also been electrified.

Brading - May 85

A couple of VEC class 485 EMUs. On the right #485 043. These units were introduced to the island in 1967, rebuilt from 1923 & 1935 LT stock.

I've been informed that only one platform is now in use and the bridge has been closed off.

Brading - May 85

A view from the other direction with a VEC class 485 EMU.

The 3 car units are TIS class and when you have a 7 car train its called a 7 VECTIS, the roman name for the island. Clever innit!

Brighton - 1 Sept 85

A facelifted CIG class 421/3 #1701 in LSE "Jaffa cake" livery.

Brighton - 1 Sept 85

A class 47 #47 244 and a class 33 loco on the Southwest coast platforms.
