THE WEST COUNTRY

Another part of the country we used to frequent back in the 80s. Another all diesel affair here, plus proof of why I got beaten up at school!!!

Axminster - 21 July 81

My brother decked out in a Palace kit (looks a bit of a Nancy in this shot) next to a BRCW class 118 DMU.

Axminster - 22 July 81

Yes it happened to me, only once, but it happened. A triple header!!!!! The class 50 loco broke down and had to be rescued by a couple of class 31 locos headed by #31 420 to finish its journey to Exeter.

Axminster - 22 July 81

An opposing view. You can see the sick class 50 in this shot. I believe it's #50 019 - Ramillies. See Exeter for more shots.

I was 12 when I saw a triple header. Jealous? Of course you are!

Barnstaple - 22 July 81

My Mother and Brother next to the same  BRCW class 118 DMU as we saw the day before at Axminster.

I remember throwing a strop on the return journey, I wanted to wait an extra 1 1/2 hours for class 31 hauled semi fast service, but no we got the earlier DMU that stopped everywhere. I think I would still throw the same strop if it happened today!

Bridgwater - 89

Not quite sure of the year.

Bridgwater - 89

A Leyland Bus Super Sprinter class 155 DMU.

The next generation of DMUs. I've never really grown to like them, unlike the next generation in Star Trek!

Bristol Temple Meads - Mid 82

A magnificent and much photographed station, however I couldn't find any with the British Rail sign, which has now obviously has been removed.

Castle Cary - Early 87
Cheltenham Spa - August 86

A class 50 loco #50 047 - Swiftsure
